Description:
Stepping down into Re-Bar is like stepping into an intimate world full of color and warmth. Chartreuse green and dusty rose-colored walls are covered with hanging mirrors and art. Mosaic pottery cradles Christmas cactus and at the entrance an extensive array of copper jelly molds adorn the walls. Painted Chinese lanterns and plastic tablecloths sporting tropical fruit motifs create an eclectic sense of fun and funkiness at Victoria's best vegetarian restaurant. The décor suggests it all - a playful and creative attitude toward the fabulous food that is served here.

Owner Audrey Alsterberg says Re-Bar began as a juice bar in the late ‘80s. It was a labor of love, and response was so positive she moved the business into an old heritage building in historic Bastion Square. Fresh fruit and vegetable juices, power tonics, wheatgrass drinks and smoothies are as popular as ever, but added to this is an ever-changing seasonal menu that continues to delight regular clientele and first-time visitors alike. (Some regulars practically reside at Re-Bar; the food is that good!)

The menu is lovingly thought out with a mainstay of entrees, salads and starters, complimented by a selection of daily breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch specials. Everything is fresh, flavorful and, as the name Re-Bar suggests, reinforcing, rejuvenating and re-energizing. Organic and local products are used as much as possible. Try these on for size: Monk's curry, enchiladas verde, fettuccine la dolce vita, and the best almond burger in town. A small but tasty selection of regional beers and wine served-by-the-glass is reasonably priced, as is the entire menu. Desserts will seduce the most hardened calorie-counter. These imaginatively delicious creations and all other baked goods are made at sister business Cascadia Wholefoods Bakery. Service is friendly, upbeat and efficient.

So if you're looking for something unique and truly satisfying step down into Re-Bar and step out renewed, refreshed and rewarded.

rebar is victoria's best vegetarian restaurant? i really dont think so. anyone who doesnt like their food killed would consider having it cooked next to fish a big problem. are fish vegetarian? dont think so... and its expensive. almost 9 bux for a veggie burger no side dish. why does everyone go on about rebar when its not vegetarian, affordable or all that friendly?
