Description:
Pagliacci’s is a true Victoria original. The Siegel family, led by the local TV personality Howie Siegel, has made the restaurant into one of Victoria’s most popular locations for great pasta and desserts, live music, and wonderful atmosphere. Pagliacci’s has been in Victoria for over 20 years now, and its popularity shows no sign of waning. The décor alone makes a visit to Pag’s worthwhile. The walls are painted dark orange (the effect is warm, not tacky) and festooned with autographed pictures of rock stars, sports stars, and beautiful women, as well as movie posters of "The Maltese Falcon" and "The Godfather."

Pag’s offers excellent salads and sandwiches, including the intriguingly named Babette’s Feast (many of the dishes are named after movies), but it is justly renowned for its pasta. The pasta dishes are available in half or full sizes; many patrons find that the half size is more than enough. Dishes include a rich tortellini dish called the Cabinet of Dr. Cappelletti, the Attack of the Killer Sundried Tomatoes (tomatoes in a white wine sauce on linguine), and the Roman Holiday (mushrooms, cream, fontina cheese and bacon on spaghetti). My Little Chickadee is a different chicken dish every day. On the day I was there for lunch, it was chicken grilled to perfection, in a mushroom cream sauce on spinach linguine. Dinner entrees include The Thin Man (medallions of veal) and Chicken Garbo. All dishes, including delicious foccacia bread, are ample and attractively prepared.

The dessert menu offers New York cheesecake, among other varieties, as well as carrot cake and turtle pie -- a fabulous concoction of chocolate, caramel and pecans. The chocolate topping alone appeared to be about half-an-inch thick.

Pagliacci’s has live music Sunday to Wednesday nights, and the restaurant has hosted jazz stars such as Diana Krall and Etta James. The prices are very affordable, especially considering the size and quality of the portions. Customers are guaranteed to leave feeling full and happy.

I can agree that the atmosphere is great with the music and all, but it is so crowded, you better hope you don't need to get up for anything. You're back to back with other people, and you're both pulled right into your tables. The pasta dish I had was actually quite bland. It does have ambience though. When I return to Victoria, I plan to try other restaurants. There's so many great ones!
