Description:
When it comes to simple wholesome food, Green Cuisine is the place to visit. Tucked down in the lower level of Market Square, this completely vegan restaurant has become a bit of an institution here in the city. But you don't have to be vegan or vegetarian to enjoy the delicious array of hot and cold dishes available at the restaurant’s self-serve buffet.

Soups and salads, veggie burgers, tempeh and tofu entrees, sushi, samosas and sausage rolls are just a few of the mainstays here. Fresh juices, shakes and smoothies, organic teas and coffees are all available too. And the desserts -- how do they make such wonderfully tasty morsels without using eggs or butter or cream? Crumbles and cobblers, cakes, cookies, bars and muffins are all made on the premises using fresh-ground, certified organic flours.

At Green Cuisine you always know exactly what you're getting. All ingredients are listed. This is truly unique and extremely helpful to those with allergies or food sensitivities. They cater to those with more delicate constitutions by offering both wheat-free and gluten-free foods. Take away a loaf of their hearty, naturally leavened bread. There's something for the fat-conscious too, but because all ingredients are plant-based and sweetened with natural sugars, if any (no honey or white sugar here), fat content tends to be lower anyway. But who’s counting calories when everything tastes so good and is so good for you?

At Green Cuisine, the atmosphere is casual and relaxed. Open booths and benches hug exposed brick walls. Murals painted in big billowy clouds of pink and gold drift off into misty far-away landscapes or otherworldly gardens -- a poetic contrast to the down-to-earth food at down-to-earth prices.
