From the Inner Harbor, head north along Wharf Street several blocks to Yates Street. Turn right. Ferris' is located on the north side of the street about one third of the way up opposite the car park. Description: On Friday or Saturday nights, chances are you're looking for a restaurant that offers lots of choices, lots of flavor and a reasonable price. You're seeking an eatery with soft lighting, not too big, not too noisy where the service is... edgy lets say- service, yes, someone's getting you what you need, but you don't mind a little personal flair, a little attitude, a little style tossed into the mix. Summer afternoons you want to be able to lunch and lounge on an outdoor patio alongside glass jars where tea is being steeped in the sunlight to be poured, later, over the ice in your glass, where a rustic brick wall is the backdrop for climbing vines and umbrellas provide the comfort of shade. At the first sign of autumn you crave dark wood, an earthy well stocked bar, candlelight on your table... You picky diner, you! You want the gustatory world and you want it with style! If these are the things you pine for, then Ferris' Oyster Bar and Grill is the place to experience them. Ferris' is many things. It's evening and daytime. The food is always tasty and the menu is an abbreviated novella -- a great place to go when you want lots of selection, when you don't know if you're more 'Oysters Hot-Hot-Hot- On the Half Shell' or Indonesian Prawns, (a mouthwatering combination of red and green peppers, onions and prawns in a sweet and sour sauce, heaped onto a soft pizza-like shell), whether you crave Pan-Fried Halibut or Ferris' delectable Almond-Tofu Burger, satay or soup, pasta or potstickers. The food is guaranteed to be satisfying, the portions considerable, the price, surprisingly right. If you like a drink with dinner, Ferris' comes through with an extensive menu, brilliant martinis (for something really special ask for the Side Car -- brandy and cointreau with fresh lemon) a decent selection of BC wines, and after-dinner drinks. Oh, and again, the service. Expect to wait a little for your food but you might be entertained while you do by the servers who can be everything from uproariously witty to downright theatrical. Mostly, you'll be impressed. A "Lazy Southern Sunday Brunch" is served up weekly from 9am until 2:30pm. Order a round of Madame Bismark, the oven baked big an' fluffy pancake, with rum fried bananas, whipped cream and maple syrup' or the 'Hangtown Fry', BC oysters fried up with bacon, green onions, tomato salsa, and eggs served with oven roasted potatoes and peasant toast'- whew! Whether it's mid-week, mid-afternoon, lunchtime, dinnertime, late night, weekend, Ferris' is open. The clientele is a mixed tote that includes everyone from tattooed hipsters to swish business types, dreamy-eyed couples to trailblazing tourists who are fortunate to have discovered a hole in the wall that locals devoutly patronize. If you've been once, chances are, you're already hooked. Written By: Sarah Pollard Map In This Category
