Follow the Trans-Canada Hwy through downtown Victoria to Humboldt Street and turn right, travel one block and turn left on Government Street. Follow Government Street four blocks and look for the Abbey Lee on your left. Description: With its towering staircase and high ceilings the Abbey Lee Bed & Breakfast offers a stay to remember. With an impressive suite, two lovely rooms and a beautiful garden you’re sure to feel comfortable in this piece of Victoria heritage located only five minutes from downtown. Identified on the outside by its gingerbread finishing the F. Sherborne House was built in 1892, by Mr. Sherborne a construction contractor. The house is built in Italianate and Queen Anne style and is reminiscent of San Francisco’s Victorian architecture. Main floor ceilings are nearly 12 feet high and are accompanied by equally splendid bay windows. Through the large and bright kitchen you exit into a small attractive garden, with gigantic rosemary bushes and a wraparound porch. The main suite features classic style and a bathroom to die for. Surfaced entirely in marble with a large Jacuzzi tub, it’s like having your very own spa. The suite is large and includes a restored plaster wall decoration from the 1914 Capitol Theatre building downtown. The suite is huge with a sitting area and view of Government Street. The other rooms, while much smaller and with a shared bath, are no less lovely. The rear room has a pleasant view of the back garden and also offers spacious comfort. The master suite is priced reasonably compared to what you might find in a hotel, for its size and amenities provided, but is not for those traveling on a budget. In contrast, the two rooms are priced very reasonably in the range of a downtown motel. The only obvious reason for this lower price is the shared bath. If you don’t mind sharing with one other room, it’s a good bargain for a lovely room in a great location. Low-season rates are also available. Written By: Christabel Padmore In This Category
