Description:
If you’re keen on boats and history, then no matter what your age, you’ll have a great time at the Maritime Museum of British Columbia.

British Columbia is rich in its maritime history and this restored 1889 courthouse has many a tale to tell. Discover how John Voss and Norman Luxton set out from Victoria in 1901 to sail around the world -- in a dugout canoe! Their vessel, Tilikum, is currently on display at the museum.

Get the skinny on pirates. Learn how Bill the canine lightkeeper saved the lives of two shipwrecked mariners way back in 1927. Relive Captain Irving Johnson’s 1929 wild voyage around Cape Horn on the massive bark Peking. View over 400 models ranging in length from two inches to 17 feet.

The museum is also host to a vast collection of artifacts from the First and Second World Wars. Have you ever touched an anti-submarine torpedo? Well, then, here’s your chance!

Actually, it’s hard say what tops the list of attractions at the museum. Its caged elevator, complete with lacy ornamental grillwork in gold and blue, is considered the oldest operating elevator in the country. Children just love it.

The museum welcomes children. It puts on tours for school groups, a children’s treasure hunt and even a "haunted" sleepover.

You can purchase many nautical artifacts at the museum’s gift shop including brass bells, scrimshaw, historical charts, and even a copper navy thimble for measuring a tot of rum.

For a very reasonable admission, the Maritime Museum of British Columbia provides hours of entertainment. Even better, the admission price entitles you to return again again over a three-day period. So you won’t have to miss a thing.
