Description:
Take a century-old church, convert it into a beautiful theatre, add a large roster of outstanding Canadian talent and award-winning original plays, and you’ve got the Belfry Theatre.

The theatre offers something for everyone. Here you can see global and Canadian premiers of compelling dramas, musicals, and comedies. While local playwrights pen many of the plays, the Belfry also offers work from international sources.

But it’s not just the plays that make the Belfry Theatre a favourite among locals and tourists. It’s the historic and intimate venue. The minute you plunk your bottom on to one of the theatre’s purple velvet seats you’ll feel like you’re back in the 19th century. The high ceilings above you and the gold gild on the balcony will only further that impression.

Despite its old-fashioned décor, the Belfry offers state of the art equipment to stage its plays. The sight lines and sound are excellent.

So why not spend an evening, or a Saturday afternoon, experiencing the cultural side of Victoria? The Belfry Theatre is located a short 15-minute walk from the Inner Harbour, in the heart of Victoria’s funky Fernwood district. You could even grab a bite before the show at the pub or pizza restaurant across the street.

Tickets are reasonably priced and can be purchased online or by calling the Belfry Box Office at (250) 385-6815. Tickets can also be purchased, in person only, at Tourism Victoria’s Information Centre on the Inner Harbour.
