From Swartz Bay (Ferry Terminal) take Highway 17 (Pat Bay Hwy) to McKenzie Avenue/Nanaimo Hwy 1 Exit). Take Hwy 1 North (Trans Canada) to Colwood-Sooke Exit (to Highway 14). Follow Hwy 14 (Sooke Road). Continue west and pass through Colwood, and Metchosin for about 20 minutes. Once you enter Sooke watch for the 17 Mile House Pub on the right and keep your eyes peeled as Hartmann House will come up quickly about another 3K on your right. If you reach Cove Point Restaurant on your left you've gone too far. Description: Overlooking Sooke Harbour is Hartmann House, an artisan’s English cottage situated on an acre of beautifully tendered gardens. Guest rooms are appointed with handcrafted furniture and private bathrooms. The Honeymoon Suite is a romantic self-contained suite. It offers a beautiful king-size four-poster bed hand carved from western red cedar, a wood burning fireplace, oversized whirlpool tub for two and a butler's pantry equipped with a fridge, microwave, and a bar sink. The Bay Window Room has a king-sized canopied bed and an ensuite bath featuring a handcrafted tiled shower and French doors opening onto the gardens. The Garden Room boasts a hand carved pineapple bed and a private bath with an old-fashioned clawfoot tub for those long relaxing bubble baths. Fine linens, feather duvets, fresh flowers and thick robes are luxurious added touches. Rise early and enjoy a three-course breakfast. Gourmet entrees such as shrimp omelets with feta cheese and strawberry waffles are served on plates garnished with fresh fruits, herbs and flowers from the gardens. Other specialties of the house include spiced rhubarb parfait and heart-shaped blueberry bran muffins. The village of Sooke provides many ways to work off that sumptuous meal. Take a hike along the Galloping Goose Trail, fish for some of that famous BC salmon or learn to kayak just down the road at Cooper’s Cove. Later, take a stroll through the peaceful and tranquil setting and enjoy the breathtaking views and scenic vistas. Relax in the garden on padded wicker chairs or on a cedar swing built for two. If the weather is cool adjourn to the sitting room located on the main level, complete with a large colonial fireplace and library. Savor complimentary wine and cheese in the afternoon or enjoy a good book and a warm glass of brandy. Spend a little time at Hartman House and you will also know why it’s a fixture in travel guides such as "The Best Places to Kiss in the Northwest". It is the perfect place for a romantic getaway.
