Rich in history -- both First Nations and European -- and industry -- forestry, mining and fishing -- this active coastal community is also a year-round destination spot for divers and anglers. Port Hardy is the gateway to such north island recreational areas as the wild and rugged Cape Scott Provincial Park. It’s also the home to a major B.C. Ferries terminal that offers a 15-hour cruise up the Inside Passage to Prince Rupert and the Discovery Passage to Bella Coola. Accommodation options are many in this adventure locale, as are the choices for charters and tours. Tourism has increased its popularity and with the two scenic cruises offered by B.C. Ferries, accommodations book quickly depending on the sailing schedules. Be sure to plan ahead.
