This beautiful oceanside village nestled at the tip of a peninsula on the rugged West Coast has much to offer visitors year-round. Surrounding areas include old growth temperate forests, magnificent sandy beaches, cresting waves (a surfer's paradise), and the famous Clayoquot Sound. Remarkable scenery, a 2000-year old aboriginal history, fishing and wildlife, and nearby islands that beckon kayakers and divers are just a few of its draws. Whale watching adventures offer up close viewing of resident Grays and the visiting Humpbacks and Orcas.
Once dependent on fishing and forestry, Tofino now relies heavily on tourism and offers world-class accommodations, spas, and dining. Excellent art galleries and gift shops display the local talent. Winter is wild & wet and numerous resorts offer storm-watching packages. The storms are incredible and nothing can match the power and splendour of 20-foot breakers crashing on the rocky headlands. This end of the Trans Canada Highway is a great place to begin! Photo Credit: Cheryl Oakes
