Looking for adventure? Put this unique seaside community on your list. Off the beaten track, Bamfield is a wilderness paradise offering the best in salmon and halibut fishing, whale watching, marine/wildlife viewing, and hiking trails. The world-famous West Coast Trail starts in Bamfield. (Or ends, depending on which way you hike it.) Bamfield is home to a Coast Guard Training Facility, a Marine Research Station, and absolutely fantastic sandy beaches (Pachena Bay and Brady Beach). Head to Bamfield Inlet and take a stroll along a shoreline boardwalk that passes artisans' studios, shops, resorts, as well as homes. With the Broken Group Islands, (a 100 - plus island archipelago) nearby, Bamfield is a jumping off point for many ocean kayakers and scuba divers. Accomodations to meet every taste and budget are available from luxurious resort lodges to nearby campsites.
