Review

This award-winning year-round alpine playground offers the "best of all seasons" recreation on Vancouver Island. Host to numerous special events including outdoor concerts, art festivals, adventure camps, and various snow-related events such as skiing, snowboarding and snowshoe competitions, the resort is kept hopping.

Summer visitors have an incredible choice of activities. Scenic chairlift rides over flower-filled alpine meadows take you a mile above sea level and offer commanding views of the Strait of Georgia, the Comox Glacier, and neighbouring Strathcona Provincial Park. Of particular note, the resort modified one of the chairs on the lift making this mile-high experience now available to disabled visitors in wheelchairs. Whether backpacking or just taking a leisurely stroll, hikers have their choice of trails, many of which connect with those in Strathcona Park. Advanced and intermediate trails for mountain biking are also available. Take a guided trail ride on horseback with breathtaking views or try your hand at disc golf (Frisbee) on the alpine course.

Phenomenal snowfall (avg. 32 feet) and mild temperatures draw skiers worldwide. With over 50 runs serviced by eight lifts, skiers can choose from groomed slopes, powder chutes and mogul runs with marked areas for beginners. Snowboarders have a choice of two parks. For family fun, take a ride in the O-Zone snow tubing park, which will produce, squeals of delight. Or opt for the night-lit toboggan run offering free fun for kids of all ages. With some of the best Nordic skiing trails in Western Canada—more than 40 kms of trails—cross-country skiing is very popular. Try your hand at snow shoeing on one of four designated trails. Laughing is definitely allowed! A great success at the resort is their Disabled Skiing Program.

The resort’s alpine village offers numerous amenities with food and beverage services, village market grocery store, and retail and rental shops. Village accommodations range from condos, lodges, chalets, and B&B’s to an RV site for campers or you can choose to stay in nearby Courtenay or Comox with shuttle service to the mountain.
