Description:
The Rosemean mansion, designed in 1909 by architect Samuel McLure, was built for a Yorkshireman by the name of T.M. Slater. After a string of prestigious owners, Sam and Rosina Lane purchased the five-acre property in 1946 and created the marvel of today, The Olde England Inn.
The main floor of this majestic manor offers a beautiful Edwardian dining room complete with ceiling murals and antique tapestries. The Inn offers English breakfasts, luncheons, traditional teas, and romantic candlelit dinners. Across the hall, the staff at the Penny Lane lounge will be pleased to serve you with before- or after-dinner drinks in a relaxing atmosphere.
Upstairs, guests are offered three levels of accommodations to choose from: standard rooms, deluxe period and royal suites. Special packages often include continental breakfasts. Many of the exquisitely furnished rooms include fireplaces and genuinely carved oak, four-poster canopy beds. All guests are surrounded by the antique luxuries of yesteryear with all the conveniences of modern day living
If wonderful dining, antiques, and 53 rooms and suites aren’t enough for you, then come and explore the artistry of Old England displayed on the surrounding acreage. Tour a perfect replica of Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, built in 1959, the birthplace home of William Shakespeare, or wander through the Shakespearean Village, with historic exhibits, an authentic ‘Pillory’, and ‘Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe’.
Come to the Olde England Inn, stay in the King of Portugal Room, and sleep in the same bed that the King of Portugal used in 1810. Many establishments will say they will treat you like a king--at the Olde England Inn you'll sleep like one, whichever room you choose. And after a good nights sleep, a royal Shakespearean tour, and dinner fit for a queen, curl up in front of a roaring fire and sip a glass of Chardonnay--it’s your holiday.

Sans the screaming kids I had back then, I'll never forget the British elegance and peacefulness of the hotel itself. The food was also elegant. Now that they're grown and out I would love to try again.

I was just reading that the Olde England Inn is now the England Inn. Gone is much of the historical theming, although it appears good use has been made of the rich wood structure.
I had stayed there (and quite enjoyed it) several times, including my honeymoon.
For example, pictures I saw showed the dining rooom has been redone, and the seating and decor is modern. The food got excellent reviews. The establishment itself showed mixed reviews - some experiencing booking or room problems, others enjoying their stay with no issues. Apparently is was (understandably) more problematic during the remodel, but that's reported to be largely done.
I'll miss the historical theme, but I'm still likely to give it a go the next time I stay in Victoria.

Fifty years ago my wife and I stayed in Ye Olde English Inn one night of our 3-day honeymoon. It was fabulous! We're thinking about a nostalgic one-night return to celebrate our Golden Anniversary.

My husband and I stayed three nights at the Ye Old England Inn a few years ago - it was fantastic. If you love anything British (but can't afford to visit England every year) --this place makes up for it!!! It is like stepping back in time - the food----fantastic!!
go - splurge - enjoy yourself! We did!!
