From the Inner Harbour, go three blocks east on Humboldt Street. Description: If it's romance and privacy you're looking for Humboldt House is the place to stay. Tucked away on a tree-lined street just minutes away from the Inner Harbor and the sweeping grounds of Beacon Hill Park, this 1893 home has been authentically renovated to reflect the Victorian era. Host Mila Werbik and family have created a charming oasis of quiet and comfort for those couples looking to spend some one-on-one time together. Once inside the sedate walls of this "shotgun" style home (named for its long and narrow design), the outer world seemingly disappears and one is enveloped in the warm and inviting ambience of the house itself. Six spacious rooms, each uniquely decorated, are designed for intimacy and relaxation. All have wood-burning fireplaces and five have Jacuzzi tubs where, in the upper floor rooms, one can linger over the view of the historic St. Anne's Academy grounds. Truffles and bubbly, fresh flowers and goose-down comforters are just some of the lovely details to be found here. The library offers guests a snug and cozy place to relax, read a good book, sip on a glass of sherry or nibble on some tasty homemade treats created by manager and chef David Booth. Breakfasts are a delight. Brought to your room via a two-way butler's pantry, these gourmet meals-in-a-basket are fresh and sustaining. Seafood crepes, eggs Benedict, French toast or the Continental come with a morning fizz of bubbly and orange juice. The guest book is full of compliments. Humboldt House was awarded highest rating for Most Romantic Bed & Breakfast Inn in Victoria by Best Places to Kiss in the Northwest. For couples who like to travel with other couples, the 1925 two-bedroom White Heather Cottage, located next door to the family home of beloved Canadian artist Emily Carr, offers a fully self-contained getaway for those who want privacy with friends or family.
