Review
The Sally bun, billed as "the perfect fast food" by many who've enjoyed these savoury buns, finds its home at Sally Bun, a small but inviting café located amid the antique shops on upper Fort Street. If you're not in a rush to take-away, come in and relax in this wonderfully cozy, bright and colourful space where you can pull out a newspaper or magazine from the rack, sip on a latte, linger over lunch, or meet a friend. When the weather's fine the back garden is open. Dappled sunlight, garden chairs and potted plants create a serene oasis on one of the downtown's busiest streets.
The Sally bun has a history. Once a single item on the menu and forever selling out, this tasty little bun came into its own when restaurant owners Cindy and Todd Ryan decided to expand on its ever-increasing popularity. They opened the first Sally Bun in 1997. Two other locations have opened since--one at the downtown Eaton's Centre on View Street, the other at the Panorama Leisure Centre in North Saanich.
The Sally Bun is so successful because it offers simple, wholesome and delicious food at low prices. Homemade soup, a fresh made-to-order salad and a Sally bun make a complete and satisfying meal. Everything is prepared by hand and made from scratch. Using a family bread recipe given to him by his mother Muriel, Todd has created a unique and delightful product that keeps customers coming back again and again. There's a tantalizing selection of buns to choose from, but the curried chicken and spinach/ feta are still the most popular. Try an apple/almond or blueberry/pecan twist with your morning coffee--whatever you choose you'll be hooked!
